Since 1977, Mariposa Center has acted as a beacon of hope and healing for the women, men, and families of Orange County. We provide counseling, substance use treatment, and enhanced care services to all those who might otherwise lack the resources to seek help. Through our thoughtful and innovative services, we strive to help each person reclaim their self-confidence, self-worth, and ambition, ultimately helping them rediscover their strength and purpose.
In a unique partnership, Mariposa is joining forces with Chance Theater’s production of ‘Gloria,’ a play that explores ambition, trauma, and human connections, to host post-show public forums to exchange thoughts and ideas with the community. These special post-show “Talk Back” sessions will discuss the play’s themes and how they connect with Mariposa’s work supporting individuals and families facing mental health challenges here in Orange County. For those interested in attending the show and talk back at Chance Theater, 30% of every ticket purchased with the promo code MARIPOSA4CT will be donated directly to Mariposa Center.
“The impact of [violence and trauma]or frightening situations can leave a person in distress,” says Dr. Krista Driver, LMFT, President & CEO, Mariposa Center. “As important, it can also diminish that person’s bright future as they begin to wear the clouded lenses of a trauma survivor, and through this dialogue, following this impactful and provocative production, we can bring the discussion into public light to help those suffering feel empowered again,” Driver said.
Trigger Alert: While the production is a dark comedy, please be aware that ‘Gloria’ includes violence, intense themes, scenes, events, and sudden loud noises that may be unsettling to some viewers.

Why Are The Partnerships and Talk Back Sessions So Valuable?
The post-show talk-back sessions create a valuable opportunity for an open dialogue about the difficult topics explored in “Gloria.” Just as the play demonstrates the devastating consequences of unaddressed workplace toxicity, these sessions emphasize that real-life tragedies, like the one depicted, can often be prevented with proper intervention and support.
This idea of addressing trauma is powerfully illustrated in the story of Mariposa Center clients Joe and Therese Furey, featured in the emotional video below, who tragically lost their daughter, Sarah, to a violent incident involving her estranged husband who was struggling with PTSD.
Their emotional testimony shares how Mariposa Center helped them find ways to cope with their immense grief and trauma. Therese describes how therapy provided a safe environment to process her grief, learn healthy coping mechanisms, and eventually reclaim a sense of peace and connection with her family. This video, paired with the post-show talk back sessions, highlight the importance of having safe spaces where people can openly express their emotions, confront their pain, and begin to heal.
The Chance Theater and the Mariposa Center aim to deepen the audience’s understanding of the real-life relevance of the themes in “Gloria.” The post-show sessions are not just a continuation of the play’s narrative; they are an invitation to engage in meaningful dialogue about trauma, healing, and mental health. For example, groups like Mariposa’s ’Route 91 counseling group’ offer survivors of traumatic events, such as the Las Vegas Harvest Festival shooting, a space to process their experiences and move forward in their healing journey.
‘Gloria’ will run from September 27th — October 20th at Anaheim’s Chance Theater. Our Talk Back post-show sessions will dive deep into the play’s themes and how they connect with our work supporting individuals and families facing mental health challenges here in Orange County.
